Sphinx

This is a postcard of one of several sphinx that guard the Château de Bagatelle in Paris. The model for the face of the sphinx was an opera singer Rose Duthé. This particular sphinx is situated at the back of the Château

I wonder why they put a face onto a lions body?
I was reading mythology books and they were saying things like maybe before there existed creatures such as this and had to do with someone trying to create a being much as what scientists are thinking of doing today?

DB:She was only the model for the head...!

Titania: There are some amazing things to see. Fortunately postcards were made of them

A Lady's ife: Interesting idea. I think that wealthy people at the time could afford to indulge in their fantasies
