Here comes the bus !

On the 21st March 1907 the first bus from La Rochelle went on a demonstration tour. Can you imagine the excitement in the villages where cars were rare sights, let alone a bus?

Today, La Rochelle has a splendid fleet of buses, running on environmentally friendly diesel, two ferries across the port, park and drive, bicycles and taxis.

From small acorns do mighty oaks grow…

The changes in what for some is just one lifetime are almost unbelievable and certainly would have been if you had been Jules Verne telling someone in the crowd what life would be like in 100 years time!

Caroline: Sometimes we look around and talk about the changes that have taken place since we came here 26 years ago. Traffic lights replaced by round-abouts, new houses built. The bus station burnt down about 25 years ago and was replaced...

Can you imagine.
Life sure was different back then and slower paced.
After the invention of the auto, I am sure things picked up lol
